VALUE Study
Background
VALUE is an observational study investigating Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) staging in patients with oesophageal cancer.
It will look at how often EUS changes treatment decisions, and why. Since the introduction of PET-CT staging, the added value of conducting an EUS has been questioned.
Aims
VALUE aims to determine how often, and why, EUS changes treatment decisions. This trial will also evaluate patient and clinician experiences and opinions of EUS.
Design and Methods
VALUE aims to recruit 180 patients with potentially curable oesophageal cancer, who are suitable for EUS.
Patients will be invited to consent to the trial either before their EUS or on the day of their EUS.
As this is an observational study, there are no additional patient visits required. All data will be collected from the patient’s standard of care pathway.
Up to 30 patients and 30 clinicians will be invited to be interviewed to evaluate the use of EUS and give their experience of EUS.
