“Back in August 2017 , my incredible dad Paul started to have difficulties swallowing and after two endoscopies in 2017 that failed to find the cause (he was never put on a cancer pathway until it was found even though he had the symptoms). After months of test and being unable to eat he was finally diagnosed on a third endoscopy in April 2018 with stage 3 Oesophageal cancer after 8 weeks in our local hospital and no cancer treatment, He was transferred to Aintree Hospital to have an oesophagectomy on the 7th June 2018 under the amazing care of Mr Khan!
Unfortunately 7 weeks after surgery when he was due to start chemo-radiotherapy we found out that it had spread to his liver and we were now dealing with a terminal prognosis. He started palliative chemotherapy immediately and we can’t believe how well he is doing on it! He amazes our family everyday with his attitude to everything he has been through and is going through.
We didn’t think 2 years on he would still be here let alone wanting to do a fundraising walk for his 2 year ‘oesophagecto-versary’ even if it is just round the back garden due to shielding.
So Dad has challenged himself for the OPA to walk the height of Mount Everest (41,000 steps to be exact) over the course of June.
Any donations for this amazing charity will be greatly appreciated, starting from the 1st of June we will keep you update with his daily progress!” – Daughter Chloe
